THREE adults and two children were rescued from a dramatic flat fire earlier this evening.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Ottawa Crescent in Dalmuir around 5.40pm and found a flat on the second floor of the three storey structure at number 4 on fire.

One adult was in the property and another adult and two children were in the flat above. There were given specialist fire survival guidance over the phone from the Johnstone control centre.

That life-saving information also helped guide firefighters on the first two appliances who arrived from Clydebank.

But the blaze was so serious another unit was called in from Knightswood with 16 crew in total tackling the fire.

There are eight flats in the building but the fire service could not confirm how many others were evacuated other than the five taken to hospital as a precaution.

Crews are still on site.

Group Commander Richard Duncan told the Post: "There were three adults and two children rescued and all were taken to hospital with slight smoke inhalation.

"A joint investigation with Police Scotland is underway to determine the cause."
