A SHERIFF has fined a man who assaulted a police officer at his home and then caused a disturbance at Clydebank Police Office after being arrested.

Dean Daldry, 28, of Singer Street in Clydebank, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last Tuesday to be sentenced for the offences which took place in the early hours of the morning on February 13.

Procurator fiscal depute Emma Thomson told the court that it was 2.20am when police officers on uniformed patrol encountered Daldry who was under the influence of alcohol.

When the cops spoke to him he lunged towards one of the officers and struck him with his hand.

Daldry was then restrained and placed within a police vehicle and taken to the police office in Clydebank’s Montrose Street and placed in a cell. While there he demanded that handcuffs be taken off, shouted, swore and made threats aggravated by sexual orientation.

Daldry had pleaded guilty to the charges during an earlier court appearance.

Daldry’s solicitor Tom Brown told the court that his client was getting help with an alcohol problem.

In mitigation, the solicitor added: “He obviously has a record but he is in a position to carry out unpaid work, but he is in full time employment.”

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said: “Mr Brown says you are attending Al Anon. The police have enough to do without dealing with people at two in the morning who are intoxicated. But your record is not the worst.”

The sheriff fined Daldry £225 on each charge – a total of £450.
