A SHERIFF has adjourned the case of a Clydebank woman who admitted assaulting two police officers and then spitting on a nurse after she had been taken to hospital.

Rita Bonner, 52, who lives in the town's Clarence Drive, was appearing back at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for sentencing for two offences which took place last month on March 21 and 22. She had already entered guilty pleas to the charges when she appeared from custody following the incidents last month.

The first offence took place at both her home address and at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley on March 21, she assaulted two police officers by repeatedly kicking out at them and kicking them on the legs.

Then on March 22 at the hospital she committed an assault on a woman who works there as a staff nurse, by spitting on her head.

The court heard that reports called for by the court were not available as Bonner had not met with social work representatives as required.

Defence solicitor Scott Adair told Sheriff William Gallacher that Bonner was appearing before the court as a first offender and that she was slightly naive and had concerns with alcohol issues.

Sheriff Gallacher said: "The social work department is largely under pressure. You were told to attend and you didn't do it. I will give you another opportunity."

Bonner then responded and told the sheriff that she couldn't hear what he was saying to her.

Sheriff Gallacher then spoke louder and asked: "If you have a problem you have to tell people that. Can you hear me now?

"You were told to turn up but didn't and you could face custody. You are being given another chance but you better turn up."

The matter was adjourned until May 11 and Bonner's bail was continued.
