HATE your job? A former columnist on the Post hopes to be able to help you out with her new book.

Career development consultant Alison Spencer wrote Creating Your Classic Career to help anyone who is seeking careers advice, whether they are looking for a job, want to change career or are angling for a pay rise.

Alison, 42, of Duntocher, had a regular column in the Post last year and is now celebrating the publication of her new book.

She said: “People should be happy in their work and should have a job they are passionate about.

"I’ve been in jobs I’ve hated and it’s awful, but as soon as you sort your job and career out everything else falls into place.

“There are tips and techniques in the book on how to make a change and take the next step.

"A lot of people say that they hate their job but they don’t know what they want to do – and my book has ways to help with that.”

The 70-page guide also has case studies of people who have taken the plunge and made a change to their career – including Alison’s husband Graham.

Alison said worked as a lab technician in the '70s and '80s after leaving school. He then got into IT and spent five years studying at night school to get a degree.

Graham now works for Clydesdale Bank at Clydebank Business Park.

Alison wrote the self-published book while running her career development consultancy, The Write Career, from her home.

She said: “Getting the book published was quite an easy aspect compared to writing it. At the start of last year I took on the minimum of freelance work and just sat down and wrote it. It’s just been published and I got a copy yesterday.

"It really has something for everyone – from people who are in a job who want to negotiate a pay rise or promotion, people who want to change job, people who don’t know where to go next – to CV writing and interview skills.”

Alison’s book is available through Amazon or via her business www.write-career.com or on 07986 110 566.
