AT least five people have been hurt in a two-car collision on the Erskine Bridge shortly before rush hour.

Fire crews had to free at least one person from one of the vehicles using specialist cutting equipment.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics, including a specialist trauma unit special operations team, are treating the casualties at the scene.

The collision happened shortly before 5pm closing the bridge on the M898 south-bound carriageway.

There were significant delays in roads around the area - including the A82 - and motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible.

The road has since reopened.
