CHILDREN at Yoker Primary School learned the fundamentals of building a bridge – thanks to a visit from civil engineers.
George Leslie Ltd, a civil engineering company, has been constructing a sewer that runs beneath the primary school and had been set up for a time in the playground.
To say thanks for having them, project manager Andrew Newlands and Jordan Taggart joined Hazel Wilson from the Institute of Civil Engineers to run a workshop for the kids.
Working together in teams, the youngsters constructed a a multi-span cable-stayed box girder bridge, on Tuesday January 26. Pictured is the P6/5 class, but P7 also took part in the morning.
Teacher Kathleen Hotchkiss said: “We were delighted to have the workshop running here it has been a very valuable exercise for the children in problem-solving and working together.”
