A DEVOTED mum has spoken of her pride at seeing her young daughter make her TV debut in the new series of the Teletubbies.

Jodie Mitchell Hyslop, from Clydebank, was beaming with joy after Harper took her TV bow in front of an audience of millions.

Harper, aged just five, was part of a group of children from Clydebank and Alexandria to feature in the show, which was broadcast on Friday morning on CBBC.

The episode, called Snowball, is part of the new series of Teletubbies, the first new series in 15 long years.

And Harper and her pals Lily Auckterlonie aged five, from Alexandria and Matthew Cunningham, also five, from Alexandria, had a great time playing in the snow and interacting with the likes of Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-laa and Po.
Harper attends the Singers Station School of Music and Performance and Christie Park Primary School in Alexandria.

Jodie, aged 36, a support worker who now lives in the Vale, told the Post: “The producers of Teletubbies went into the Carousel Nursery where Harper, Lily and Matthew went to last year and they held auditions for the programme.

“They kept Harper’s details, along with the others, and got back in touch last January to see if we still wanted to do it and we agreed.

“So they all went up to Aviemore and filming took place in February.”
The group were treated to five-star luxury at the Hilton Coylumbridge Hotel before they spent a day shooting the programme nearby.

The children had a great day and, as part of the programme, they were tasked with making a giant caterpillar made out of snow.

Jodie said: “They built a big caterpillar our of snow and the place where they shot it all was not far from the hotel.

“They all loved it at the time and although it was filmed nearly a year ago, Harper still talks about it.

“There’s also a segment where Harper got the chance to try a sledge. It was her first time on it. And she talked to Laa Laa through a giant speaker.”

And in a fortnight’s time Jodie and the fellow parents should receive a complimentary DVD copy of the episode, courtesy of the makers.

Jodie added: “When I spoke to the director he said it was a brilliant episode. And when Harper watched herself on TV on Friday she turned around to me and said ‘Mum, I’m a star!’"

Although the episode aired on Friday at 7.25am, viewers who missed it can catch up with it on the BBC iPlayer in due course.
