A GROUP of neighbours are still suffering from flooding – after more than 50 visits to their properties from the council over two-and-a-half years.

Rainwater flows in through the tenants’ front doors in Granville Street, Radnor Park, and as a result they have been forced to pile sandbags around their doors.

Combined with the flooding The residents are also up in arms over a lack of fencing blocking their gardens from dog foulers and the busy road.

They have decided to speak out in hope the authorities will resolve their problems, which have been a source of stress and anxiety for the families.

Edward Friel, 34, lives on Granville Street with partner Leanne O’Donnell and their three children.

The stressed-out electrician said: “It’s unbelievable that after 50 visits we still have to deal with flooding in our home. It’s unacceptable that after all this time there has been no action taken, given we pay our rent and council tax.”

The council has apologised for the ongoing problems but says drainage has not been an issue reported to it.

On the Granville Street properties, water enters the front door of the house and spills into the hall every time it rains.

The deluge appears to come from the front garden, but no proper tests have been done, the tenants say.

As opposed to major repairs to prevent it, quick fixes looking at a short-term and cheap solution have been carried out, causing outrage to the families.

The Post also met Neil and Karen Rodgers, who live next door and have also been in the same situation as Mr Friel.

Mr Rodgers said: “We don’t want this to continue for another two-and-a-half years.

“Something needs to be done about it. They need to get some proper tests done on where the water is coming from and install proper drainage.

“We’ve been in contact with them about this since July 2013 when we moved in.”

Mr Friel has also blasted the housing department who he said promised him a fence when his family moved in.

“The road up here is a death-trap for children,” he said. “There’s no slow signs visible, the speed bumps don’t work and now we’re being told we can’t get the fence.

“I can’t let my young children into the garden when that road is only one metre away from the lawn.”

He added: “I’m sick of being messed around and lied to by the council for all this time — if this were a private landlord, we wouldn’t have these issues.”

West Dunbartonshire Council spokesman said: “We would like to apologise to the affected residents in Granville Street and can assure them that we are working hard to rectify this situation.

“We have kept these residents up-to-date throughout the process and will continue to provide more information as it becomes available.

“A defect with the doors installed by the builders has led to water ingress and the manufacturer is currently investigating a solution. An interim repair was carried out before Christmas and the problem will be completely rectified as soon as possible.

“The council has had no reports from the tenants about drainage issues in their gardens, but an officer will now attend to investigate the matter.”
