A CHURCH had its Remembrance Day plans hampered after it was raided by thieves — for the second time in nine days.

Knightswood Congregational Church had its laptop, projector and musical instruments looted from the sanctuary, the main area of worship.

The incident took place somewhere between 9.30pm on Sunday, November 1 and 9am the next day.

The first break-in took place some time between 9.30pm on Thursday, October 23 and 1pm the following day.

Rev Thomas Wilson said: “This time the sanctuary was targeted and equipment was stolen. A projector that we use to put the words of hymns onto the big screen — much appreciated by those who have difficulty with vision.

“A guitar was taken which is used by our Praise Band as we don’t have a resident organist and the Praise Band provide us with the music. A laptop was also stolen which contains material we use for services.

“This affected our service for Remembrance Sunday.” When the church was first plundered police estimated around £700 worth of goods and damage was done. However, Rev Wilson suggested the damage bill could rise to £1,400 as this time round £800 worth of goods were stolen.

Outraged member of the community, Jim Farrell, has donated his guitar to the church following the thefts.

The Knightswood man said: “The reason I donated the guitar is because my two boys attended the BBs at St David’s in the 90’s. I was happy to offer my help by donating a guitar to replace the one that was stolen.

“The church is run on a shoestring and it’s nice to be able to give something back. As for the low-life who broke into the church — absolute scum.” Community inspector Neil MacDougall, of Glasgow North West Police, said: “I’d like to reassure the community, particularly members of the congregation we are doing everything we can.

“Detectives from CID are looking into both incidents, and one of my community officers with specialist training will be attending the church to do a security review this week to see what we can do to assist.” Inspector MacDougall said that anyone who may have information or who sees anything suspicious in their neighbourhoods should contact the CID on 101,
