Cinema Releases: Friday 6th June
Gone Baby Gone(15)
Starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris.
Gone Baby Gone, Ben Affleck's debut as a director, was originally scheduled for release in the UK at the end of last year but due to plot similarities with the disappearance of Madeline McCann, it had to be delayed. When a young girl is abducted, the family decide to hire two private detectives, Patrick Kenzie(Affleck) and Angie Gennaro(Monaghan), after the police make little progress. Initially they are reluctant to take on the case as they make it clear to the girl's aunt that they have little experience in finding missing people. However after they agree to investigate, they discover that the girl's parents were guilty of neglect on the day of the disappearance.
Meanwhile, Captain Jack Doyle(Morgan Freeman) of the Boston Police Department enlists detectives' Bressant(Harris) and Poole(John Ashton) to help Kenzie and Gennaro in their investigation, as he experienced the loss of his daughter years previously. Towards the conclusion of their investigation, Kenzie and Gennaro face a moral dilemma that threatens to ruin their relationship forever.
Superhero Movie(12A)
Starring Drake Bell, Sara Paxton, Christopher McDonald and Leslie Nielsen.
In this superhero spoof, Rick Riker(Bell) who bears a close resemblance to Peter Parker from the SpiderMan movies, is considered to be something of a loser in his high school. That is until he develops superhuman abilities after being bitten by a genetically altered dragonfly on a school trip. He decides to use his powers to fight crime and develops an alter ego in the form of “The Dragonfly”. His escapades both as Rick Riker and The Dragonfly closely follow those of Peter Parker in the first movie, albeit in a purely comical style. He encounters a villain entitled Lou Landers who has the power to steal the life force from people after a scientific experiment goes wrong. Leslie Nielsen, always a treat to watch and a master of comedy plays Riker's Uncle Albert Adams.
