Sickening incident

Printer Print Article

Just when I thought that my estimation of people could not get any lower, I learned of an incident recently that made me sick to my stomach.

A close family friend was the victim of a random assault while standing at Dalmuir train station.

This would be bad enough if it was a fully grown man who was attacked, but the victim was an innocent 12-year-old girl.

The girl was punched in the face by someone she had never seen before in her life in broad daylight.

What is the world coming to?

But what made me even angrier was the reaction of the people at the train station.

Not one bystander intervened, or even asked if she was OK.

Anyone in the vicinity simply ignored the incident, and the young victim, as if nothing had happened.

This was a school child who had just been assaulted and was covered in blood at Dalmuir station for half an hour until her train showed up.

I absolutely refuse to believe that there was no-one around the station at 4pm to see this.

And I firmly believe that many of the people who were in the station will have children of their own of around a similar age.

I can only imagine what your reaction would be if it was your precious son or daughter who had been the victim, but as you did not know the girl, she was not important enough even to offer assistance to.

A young, outgoing girl is now terrified, and rightly so. Anyone in the area should be utterly ashamed of themselves because I know I am ashamed to call you human.
