The Green Dream?

Printer Print Article

OUR council leader Iain Robertson and his chief executive David McMillan were pictured in the Post praising green issues — what a pity they did not do some homework first.

A mother and her five-year-old decided to cycle to Dumbarton from Clydebank — a cycle trailer for the child at the back. The mother was taking the healthy option and the green option.

The intention was to go swimming on arrival, just what Mr Robertson is promoting. On arrival the mother chained up the bike and folded the trailer away.

She asked where she could store the trailer but was told there was nowhere to store it, so she was forced to leave.

The next time she took her child she drove — not as healthy or as environmentally friendly.

Is there any sports centre in West Dunbartonshire with lockers for child trailers?

Parents have to drive to the sports centres and this mother wanted to do the healthy option but could not.

Talking green issues make nice press, but talk is pointless when the necessary facilities are not available.
