More social housing

Printer Print Article

The lack of social housing planned for Clydebank’s waterfront, as highlighted in last week’s Post, spells disaster for the town.

The Planning committee did the right thing by demanding more social housing.

It is reassuring to see that councillors and committee members are persistent with this issue.

Clydebank’s waterfront offers spectacular views and should be enjoyed by the people of Clydebank, but how can this happen if, for one, there is not enough social housing at the site, and secondly, Bankies cannot afford the ridiculous price tags on new build properties?

Clydebank is not a rich place — residents struggle to the pay the bills, like many other towns in Scotland — but the people are the salt of the earth, and deserve to live in nice homes.

For years the Clyde was associated with shipyards and it was a workplace most of all, but now that time has passed, we should all be able to enjoy it — and not just the wealthy who might come in from other areas with no knowledge of the town or its people.
