DUNTOCHER clinched the SAYFL League Cup last Friday after surviving a nerve-racking penalty shoot-out.

Both sides had numerous chances in a thrilling match, but in the end it was down to spot kicks, with Steven Davies and the excellent David Hanley the heroes for the Clydebank boys.

Duntocher started the game brightly as they looked to hit Busby with a quick goal.

Busby keeper Graeme Cannell got an early touch when he held on to a shot from Thomas Henderson, after Steven Davies had sent him through on the right.

Duntocher quickly began to take control, with Chris Patterson, Andrew Dunbar and Mark Murphy solid in front of David Hanley in goal.

Their established midfield five of Jordan Macintosh, Ross Easton, Steven Davies, Reece Syed and Robert MacDougall worked together to create opportunities for Michael Craig and Thomas Henderson up front.

Duntocher grew in confidence as the game progressed and when Henderson went through on 15 minutes he pulled a shot in to the side netting which signalled a torrid time for the Busby defence.

On 20 minutes Macintosh delivered a corner from the right which was cleared only as far as Steven Davies on the edge of the box.

Fortunately for Busby it fell to his right foot and was drilled just over the bar instead of under it.

Reece Syed was next up two minutes later with a run from the left and a stinging shot which Cannell managed to hold low to his right.

Another run followed by a lay-off to Henderson saw Cannell positioned just right to stop the shot.

David Hanley, in Duntocher’s goal, was having a quieter time but when a ball from the byline was delivered high to his right-hand post on 25 minutes he proved he was alert as he beat Jamie McAldine to the ball.

Henderson found the net for Duntocher on the 31st minute, but the shot was ruled for offside.

Busby's defence could do no more than cling on as Duntocher hit them with wave after wave of attack, but they held out to deny their opponents and the match ended level at half-time.

Duntocher continued to press after the break, with Reece Syed and Thomas Henderson causing trouble for the Busby back line.

Gradually Busby began to work their way in to the game, having survived for so long against a sustained Duntocher attack.

Henderson found himself needing treatment following a rash challenge from Mark Murney ten minutes in.

A rare chance at the other end saw Matthew Livingstone through on Duntocher’s goal with only David Hanley to beat, but the latter got down well to turn the ball round his post.

Steven Davies then came close for Duntocher with a thunderous shot from 20 yards, before following up with two well struck free kicks in the next 10 minutes.

Busby strikers Antony Sweeney and Jamie McAldine tried to catch Duntocher’s defence out and went close with a shot in the 65th minute.

Five minutes later Macintosh had a fierce shot and only a terrific save from Cannell kept the match level, but neither team could break the deadlock and it finished goalless at full-time.

Syed, Macintosh, MacDougall and Davies netted Duntocher’s first three penalties, while the on-form Hanley saved twice to deny Busby and send the Duntocher boys wild.

Duntocher: Hanley, Patterson, Dunbar, Murphy, Macintosh, Easton C, Davies, Syed, MacDougall, Craig, Henderson. Subs: McGougan, Torrance, Butchart, Hutchison.
