DUNTOCHER booked their place in the final of the SAYFL League Cup with an accomplished performance against Ardencaple at John Brown’s on Sunday.

With Duntocher flying high in recent weeks, Ardencaple had a tough task on their hands.

The game had to change venue late on when Singers was unavailable and the game switched to John Browns, where Duntocher U-14’s were playing Goldenhill in a league play off on the next pitch.

Caple’s job went from hard to impossible when within five minutes of the start Duntocher opened the scoring with a terrific goal following good work from Steven Davies.

Davies split the Caple defence with a perfectly timed pass into the path of Reece Syed, who drove towards the box, committing the keeper.

As the goalkeeper came out Syed calmly lifted the ball over him with the side of his foot and Duntocher had an early goal to settle them.

The game began to settle as conditions played their part, with the poor pitch breaking up the flow of the game.

However Duntocher looked comfortable with Syed and Jordan McIntosh giving the Caple defence a tough time on the flanks.

Caple held on for 20 minutes before a determined Thomas Henderson found himself in on goal with just the keeper to beat, driving the ball low and hard into the net for Duntocher’s second.

Moments later, Syed let loose a fierce 30-yard shot to put his side three goals up and firmly in the driving seat.

Henderson added a fourth before half-time to put Duntocher in complete control.

The second half started with the wind against Duntocher, with Ardencaple using this to their advantage.

However a superb individual goal from Syed five minutes in meant the visitors had no way back.

Despite the wind Duntocher managed to get enough play and control of the game to add further goals from Syed — taking his tally to four — and Michael Craig.

McIntosh also added a further two of his own, with Caple scoring two consolation goals in return.

In the end an excellent team performance took Duntocher to the final, which will be played at Giffnock Showground this Sunday June 4.

There are still three teams battling it out for the remaining spot.

Duntocher: McGougan, Patterson, Dunbar, Hanley, Macintosh, Easton C, McDougall, Davies, Syed, Henderson, Craig.

Duntocher booked their spot in the semi-finals of the SAYFL League Cup after beating Celtic in match five of the competition, before losing to Giffnock in match six.

Michael Craig and Jordan Macintosh hit two goals each in their enthralling home encounter against Celtic.

Two first half goals were enough to give Giffnock a comfortable 2-0 win in a tense game which had to be halted for 45 minutes after a Giffnock player broke his arm, when he fell awkwardly after challenging for a ball.
