YOKER Athletic remain undefeated in their Sectional League Cup campaign with a win and a draw to their name.
The Whe-Ho built on a 2-2 draw last Wednesday with Maryhill by battling to victory in Possil on Saturday.
Manager John Brogan was well aware of his side’s never-say-die attitude, seeing them fight back from a two goal defecit to draw level against the Hill through goals from Jamie Carson and Scott Cameron.
And this attitude clearly impressed the gaffer, who named an unchanged side for the away day trip.
Despite playing on a surface suffering from the effects of the heavy rainfall, Yoker started brightly and both Jamie Carson and Davie Kirkwood had decent opportunities.
They went ahead on 30 minutes when Carson’s pass released Lenny Marshall down the left. He slipped the ball back inside to the on-rushing Scott Cameron who, despite being felled by a home defender, managed to flick the ball into the net.
Yoker tried to get the ball down and play some football, but the conditions and surface proved difficult — and even the normally reliable playmaker Tommy Jordan was making poor passes in what was a below-par performance from himself and those around him.
The Whe-Ho’s second goal came five minutes from the interval, when Jordan sent frontman David Watt free on the left. His pass found Marshall, who slipped the ball past the keeper in what was almost a carbon copy of Cameron’s opener.
A disappointing second half saw ‘Shire edge back into the match, taking advantage of a needlessly conceded free-kick by Carson to head past Meechan.
And even the impact of trialist Colin McKenzie couldn’t wake the visiting players into action.
While the side just managed to hold on for all three points, Brogan blasted his players at full-time.
