Another strong showing from Querida in Spanish qualifying
This week the attention has moved to the Clydebank and District Golf Club junior section with some of the young members having success away from the club.
On Friday July 11 Querida Hutchison, fresh from her victory in the Janice Moodie Junior open at Windyhill, travelled to Westerwood Golf Club to take part in the regional finals of The Andalucia Junior European Open 2008.
The finals of this event take place in January 2009, in Malaga.
Once again Querida was up to the challenge and won the event comfortably with another great display of golf, even beating many of the boys who took part in the event.
On Tuesday two of our junior boys took part in the Firstpointusa.com Scottish boys under 16 open amateur stroke play championship at North Berwick.
First out was David Gallagher who scored a very impressive 71 to sit in 9th place. John Henry came in with a score of 72 to tie for 15th place in a field of around 150.
On day two John again scored another 72 to move him up to 13th in the event and David also scored well enough to qualify for the final day.
David had played 16 holes when the competition was abandoned due to the heavy rain and the committee decided to base the result on the first two rounds, leaving both our boys finishing high in the field.
It was back to Dunbartonshire Golf Union events where we have a good representation at Bearsden golf club.
David Gallagher and Ryan Skivington qualified for the match play competition which will be played this week. Ryan also picked up a prize for the best score in his age group. Both John and David also played for the county on Sunday. On Saturday the gents played in the annual Bill Wilson Greensomes competition.
This event is played in teams of two and we had 73 teams taking part. Our winners were J Alan Wernham and Martin Long who decided to play as a team when both their original partners failed to appear.
Billy Orr and Hugh McCallum have played together for slightly longer finished second with a better inward nine from Stuart Miller and Martin Kelly.
David Gallagher junior continued a busy week of golf by teaming up with his dad David to finish fourth.
In the week that the Open is being played for at Royal Birkdale, we at Clydebank and District have our own open week with the Senior Open played yesterday (July 15 July) and the Hardgate Open is on Saturday July 1.
A full report will be in next weeks Clydebank Post.
