Brogan takes up the reins
NEW Yoker boss John Brogan can’t wait for the derby day clash with Clydebank.
Brogan was unveiled last week, having recently resigned from Super League side East Kilbride Thistle after an eight year stint.
And while he is still familiarising himself with his new squad, he needs no introduction to the Bankies boss Budgie McGhie.
The two gaffers clashed as players and Brogan is excited at the prospect of another clash in the Sectional League Cup.
Brogan said: “I know Budgie very well and I’ve a lot of time for the guy. We came up against each other on many ocassions when I was a striker for St Johnstone and he was a centre half with Clydebank.
“Derby day will be just like those tussles and I am really looking forward to it.”
Brogan and his assistant Jimmy Kerr left the Jags after a clash with directors over the club’s future.
And while he is still disappointed by what happened, he will not be planning to raid his old club for players.
He added: “We were not happy with how things were being run and didn’t agree with how the club would go ahead. We couldn’t take them any further forward.
“Jimmy is so disillusioned by the whole thing he is taking a break from the game altogether so I’m on the lookout for a new assistant.
“We had some good players at Thistle but the club doesn’t need to worry about me stealing them as they are away already — I think that tells you a lot about the situation there.”
The former Stirling Albion manager is delighted to join the Whe-Ho and is looking to build up a community club.
He said: “I am excited to be at Yoker. Meeting with the committee I was impressed with their ambition and I know the club is two years into a five year plan. Jim George and his team deserve a lot of credit for what they have started and I want to take things even further forward.
“Ninety per cent of the players will be from the community, but to do that takes time. I would like to involve some of the younger teams in the area, get in touch with them and hopefully have them feeding into Yoker.
“But first it will be about bedding in and all the players at the club just now will be given an equal chance to stake a claim.”
