GOWDIE won their second trophy of the season with an excellent win against high-flying Celtic at St Roch’s Park.

With the Blackpool Cup already taking pride of place in the cabinet, a massive Goldenhill support watched their team stun the Celts.

Not overawed by the occasion, the boys settled quickly with Fraser Murray and Aidan Cunningham going close.

Celtic threatened on a few occasions but were regularly thwarted by a strong Gowdie defence, with Che Daremas and Scott Smith in outstanding form.

Gowdie restricted Celtic to one shot on target during the first half, keeper Dan Burns pulling off a wonder save.

Cunningham and Bobby McManus led the line well but in the second half, Celtic improved, mounting wave after wave of attack.

Calum Gow and Mark Robertson held firm and with keeper Burns unflappable.

As Celtic lost heart in the final 10 minutes, Gowdie pushed ahead for the winner and were rewarded in the final minute.

Striker McManus ran on to a Cunningham knock on to seal the victory.

This was a perfect end to the season for the Gowdie boys and coming on the back of 10 straight league wins.

Captain Stephen Cairns, despite missing the match through injury, went up to lift the cup alongside stand in skipper Burns.
