GARY Murphy took his team to Cardross to play in their second match of the McIntyre League last Wednesday.
This is always a difficult place to go but the team managed a 4-4 result and a well earned two points.
On Saturday, more than 170 players from the gents section competed in the captain and vice captain’s day.
In this, the only Stableford competition, the players are counting points not strokes.
Head green keeper Graeme Latto won the first class competition with a terrific score of 40 points and in second place was George McKain with 39 points.
The second class was even closer with four players all tying on 38 points: Ronnie Black, Gordon MacLean, Billy Richardson and, with the better inward score, winner David Walsh.
In third class, Alan Miller was leading for most of the day until the second last game when Steven Hainan came in with a better inward nine — both players scored 38 points. All the prizes were donated by club captain Gary Kinninmont and vice captain Steve Burns.
Sunday saw the return of the Jimmy Sharp Open.
Almost 70 teams took part, some from as far as Peebles and Lesmahgow in this Mixed Pairs competition.
Results: Winners — Hugh and Jane Gravil (Cowglen), 66; Runners Up — Graeme Turner, grandson of Jimmy Sharp, (Fore Golfing Society) and Jennifer Gough (C&D) 67; 3rd — Jim Atkinson and Agnes Miller (C&D) 69; 4th — Ronnie Black and Rayanne Mungall (C&D) 69; 5th — Andrew Alexander (Crow wood) and Pauline Bourhill (Milngavie) 69; Scratch — Iain and Lorraine Campbell (Cardross) 79.
Special prizes for the best outward nine were won by Bill Mungall and Rena Stewart (C&D) with a score of 32 and the best inward score of 32.25, was won by the mother and son team of Mary and Stuart Gallagher.
The club pass on their thanks to Graeme Latto and his team for setting up and maintaining the course and thanks to Morag and John Wright for their work to ensure the competition’s continued success.
