YOKER Athletic’s season came to a disappointing end with a rusty below par performance.

The tone was set early on when, despite his experience, Kenny Meechan reacted to a late challenge by Bens striker Rodger and was duly given his marching orders for lifting his hands.

Graeme Wardrop came on to take up the goalkeeping berth with striker Alan Prentice sacrificed.

The games opening goal came on 20 minutes. Lenny Marshall needlessly fouled Gibson and McMillan curled a free-kick in at the far post as Wardrop looked on.

David Watt passed up a great chance for an equaliser and Bens went further ahead in the second half when Sean Brady was penalised for a foul on the edge of the area only for the referee to decide it was a penalty after pressure from the home players.

Wardrop couldn’t keep out Gibson’s penalty despite getting a hand to it.

Gibson sealed the game after a defensive mix up before Scott Cameron nodded home a consolation goal.

The future direction of the club is now uncertain and the committee would ask anyone interested in helping out or providing sponsorship to get in touch as soon as possible as plans for season 2008/09 must begin immediately.
