FIFTY players took part in the gents section’s fourth qualifying round of the Claret Jug on Wednesday.

The best scores was nett 65 from Steve McLaren and David Gallagher with David winning with the best inward nine.

It was also the start of the league challenge for the gents McIntyre team, with David Gallagher junior brought in by new convener Gary Murphy for the home match against Clober.

This is the first time the senior team has had a father and son playing together — David joining his father, the club champion David Gallagher. Both players won in a successful start with a 7-1 victory to Clydebank and District.

On Saturday, 164 gents took part in the Spring meeting and once again, with another sunny day, the scoring was low.

Club champion David Gallagher scored a nett 65 to win the medal for first class. In second class, Michael McGlinchey started his round with two at the par four first hole and went on to score a nett 65 to win.

Scoring an eagle (a two at a par four) is usually quite rare but there were two on Saturday as Stephen Hainan did the same on the 17th. The third class medal was won by Gordon Laird who scored a 69.

The following day, the junior McIntyre team played their first home match against Cardross and won 4-2 with David Gallagher, Kevin Logan and Ryan Skivington all winning.

But the result was confirmed when Johnathon Pollock was three down with four holes to play and still managed to win his match.

Also on Sunday, the ladies section held their captains’ day with past captain Reyanne Mungall winning while Rosemary Richardson and Morag Wright finished runners up.
