Lesmahago-ing, going, well gone
BRILLIANT: Bankies outclassed Lesmahagow on Monday
Lesmahagow 1 Clydebank 4
BRILLIANT Bankies turned on the style to make it four wins in a row with one of their best performances of the season.
A devastating three-goal blitz in three minutes turned the match on its head in the first half after Lesmahagow had taken the lead.
John Savage had fired the Craighead Park outfit ahead with a stunning volley which flew past Barry John Corr.
But within little more than 10 minutes, Clydebank were leading 3-1 and looking the part.
Kevin Proctor levelled when he turned home a Paul Allum cross after a delightful 40-yard pass from Mark Hailstones.
Two minutes later Proctor was barged in the box for a penalty which skipper Gordon Lappin slid past Stewart Thomson to edge his side ahead.
Then Paul Allum was again the provider, linking well with Lappin to play in Andy Kenna for a simple tap in.
Clydebank were cruising but they were dealt a blow shortly before the break when Proctor pulled up with a hamstring strain.
Mark Bowie (bottom right) was introduced as a replacement and thankfully continued where Proctor left off.
Within a minute, he brought a fine stop from Thomson when his pace took him clear of the Gow defence.
The half time break gave the home side some respite but normal service was resumed after the restart.
Bankies were in total control and delighted their travelling fans with some fine passing football. The only surprise was that it took so long for the fourth goal to come.
When Bowie popped up at the back post to tuck the ball past Thomson to cap another fine move only 20 minutes remained.
It was amazing that Budgie McGhie’s men had gone so long without adding to their lead, such was their domination.
The Clydebank gaffer withdrew Hailstones for David Fisher and Barry Docherty for James Lennox as the game drifted beyond Gow.
Both players helped maintain the momentum and kept the pressure on the home goal until the final whistle.
CLYDEBANK: Corr, McInness, Sinclair, Packham, Cunningham, Allum, Kenna, Docherty (Lennox), Lappin, Proctor (Bowie), Hailstones (Fisher). Subs not used: Miller, Gonet.
