Clydesdale Harriers’ April antics

AS usual, the Clydesdale Harriers have been busy this month racing in various events.

On April 5 they took part in the Scottish Athletics Road Relay Championships at Livingston.For the senior men, this was a six stage relay race of alternating distances of three and six miles.

With one complete and one incomplete team running, the complete team comprised of John Foley (18.42), Brian Campbell (36.00), Bobby Young (19.31), Gary Dick (35.13), Gus Cairney (20.12) and Paul Carroll (34.16). They finished 27th out of 47 complete teams and were also fourth veteran team.The incomplete team comprised of Iain Robertson (18.27) and Peter Rudzinski (41.56).

The following weekend was the Tom Scott 10 mile Road Race and the Tom Scott Round the Loch 6k Race. Both races ran around the scenic Strathclyde Park. In the 10 miler, the Clydesdale women ran brilliantly to be second and fourth women overall.

Pamela McCrossan was first woman in, running her second fastest ever 10 miles in a time of 66.24.

She was closely followed by the constantly improving Kath Scott in 66.56, a personal best for her. Kath also bagged the first veteran prize.

Not far behind the ladies was the only Clydesdale male, Pete Cartwright in 67.25.

The Tom Scott Round the Loch 6k had two Harriers. Brian Campbell was first to finish in a time of 23.21 followed by Colin Gray in 33.04.

The annual London Marathon saw four harriers travelling down to cover the 26.2 mile course. First harrier was Stevie Thompson running a respectable 3:07:09. This was followed by Gerry Montgomery (3.26.03), John Foley (3.35.32) and Aileen Scott (3.43.01). Aileen was using the race as a training run before her second attempt at the West Highland Way Race this June.

The next races on the calendar are the Balmoral 10k, the Richie Wanacott All Terrain Challenge (Five and Nine Mile Races) and the Lochaber Marathon.
