WITH both the 1st and 2nd XV teams matches cancelled on Saturday it was left to Clydebank’s youth section to represent the club.

The 1st XV were set to play Paisley in a bid to capture the championship crown but the game was called off at the 11th hour due to a waterlogged pitch.

So the boys will now have to wait until Uddingston in several weeks time to get their hands on the trophy.

But the 2nd XV were effectively crowned champions after taking the points when Loch Lomond failed to field a team, leaving them just one point from the title – which they will automatically receive for taking to the field in the last home match of the season.

The U15 squad travelled to Lenzie where they produced one of their best performances of the year. The team tackled everything that moved but despite their hard work could not hold the very skilful Lenzie squad who ran in six tries without reply.

Unfortunately the score does not reflect the performance of the team which was much better than in previous encounters and reflects a significant improvement in the squad.

Clydebank’s thriving mini section had its first ever matches when the youngsters took on Paisley at home. Two matches were played with a squad of P3 to P5 players and another made up of P6 and P7 players.

The event was all about the kids playing their first match and they all enjoyed it tremendously.

The organisers continue to seek out fixtures and it is hoped that a lot more games can be arranged over the remaining months of the season.

Next week the 1st XV welcome Mackie — who are travelling from Stonehaven — for the quarter final of the National Plate competition.

All supporters are encouraged to come along to cheer on the club in their attempt to continue their fantastic run in the tournament.

Mackie play in the Northern District League 1 and have had a successful season so far so it should be an entertaining match.

While the 2nd XV are looking to complete their league campaign with a final match against Shawlands but this has yet to be confirmed.

The Mini rugby continues to train on Sundays at 12pm with the Midi section training on Tuesday nights at 6pm.

The club would like to attract sponsors for the Mini and Midi teams and would encourage any potential sponsors to come forward.

Anyone wishing to play or sponsor one of the Mini or Midi teams should contact Gordon McCombe on 07812 582775.
