LEGEND: Davie Cooper

BANKIES legends Davie Cooper and Jim Fallon became the inaugral inductees into the Greatest Bankie Hall of Fame.

Seven players — including current midfielder Mark Hailstones and manager Budgie McGhie — were shortlisted with votes cast by the club’s supporters.

And after every ballot paper had been counted, Fallon and Cooper (top) were named as joint winners.

Fallon (below), who joined Clydebank in 1967 and remained until his retirement from the game in the late 80s, collected his award at the Sportsman’s Dinner on Saturday night.

HONOURED: Jim Fallon receives his award

The man who notched up 769 appearances in a Bankies jersey, is now Head of Physiotherapy Services at Hampden.

Reflecting on the award, he said: “I got it for good attendance and battering a ball the length of the pitch.

“No seriously, to win came completely out of the blue and it is a wonderful accolade to round off a career of almost 25 years.

“When I joined the club there was a real affinity amongst the players - we played together and socialised together. All these years later we are still in touch as you never lose that camaraderie.”

David Curwood, commercial manager at the club when Coop signed, collected the award in his honour which will be passed onto his family.

The dinner was a great success, raising cash for the club and bringing together Bankies past and present.

Clydebank manager McGhie said: “It was great to see my old team mate Jim getting honoured.

“Most people who leave Clydebank still have the club at heart and that was apparent on Saturday night with so many familiar faces and former players.”

His views were echoed by Clydebank chairman Gordon Robertson.

He said: “I am delighted and grateful to everyone who came along and supported us — the fans, local businesses and players past and present.

“Jim Fallon was a long serving player, a coach, he did absolutely everything and Davie Cooper was probably the most famous former player we’ve ever had.

“It is a really nice touch the two were inducted together.”
