Five for the final flourish

YOKER boss Jim George has given his troops an outside chance for promotion.

The Whe-Ho head for Blantyre Victoria’s sloped pitch on Saturday desperate to stay in the running.

George said: “Lanark look like they should take one of the promotion spots and there are five of us in with a shout of the remaining spot.

“Realistically, we are the fifth of the five but you can’t give it up.

“We have a lot of home games to play and matches against the teams around us so it is still up for grabs.”

Only one match survived the poor weather on Saturday — St Anthony’s 1-0 win over Dunipace — and clubs are starting to feel the financial pinch.

Holm Park has hosted just one Yoker game since December 22, but George, a former boss at Petershill FC, says even his old club are struggling.

George added: “When you’ve only had two games in the last 12 weeks it is bound to have a financial impact.

“It’s hard but we are not alone — I spoke to guys on the committee at Petershill and even they are watching the pennies.”
