MIDFIELD maestro Alan Jack is desperate to get back on the scoresheet and push towards his season’s goal target.
The former Arthurlie star has been sidelined for almost 10 weeks after picking up a thigh and calf strain at the same time.
But, having made his return to first team action as a sub in the Scottish Cup tie against Blairgowrie, Jack is eyeing a starting spot this weekend as he pushes for double figures.
Jack, who has already netted seven goals so far this season, said: “If I can get double figures from midfield then I will be happy. I’ve always managed it before when I’ve been injury free so once I get back playing I will focus on that.
“It was fantastic to come back in against Blairgowrie, not just on an individual level but for the team to perform as they did not having played for five weeks was impressive.
“The way we ground out the result against a side unbeaten at home shows you the character we have in the side.”
Having spent much of the season sidelined, Jack has been in a strong position to comment on the Bankies players who have caught his eye this season.
Yet when asked to do so, he named the whole squad.
He added: “Andy Kenna puts in a shift and Gordon Lappin is a great talent. Then there is wee Mark Hailstones who took his cup goal well, big Martin McInnes is standout, as is Paul Allum.
“Mark Bowie has come in and worked his socks off so everybody has played their part. We’ve shown a great team effort.”
Bankies are back in action away to Annbank United this weekend at New Peeble Park. United lie in 10th position, four points behind Clydebank who are currently 8th.
The gap between them and league leaders Rob Roy is 13 points but Jack — like his gaffer Budgie McGhie — still harbours promotion hopes.
He said: “I’m a confident person and I believe we can go up. If you don’t believe then there isn’t any point in playing football. We’ve got to win our games in hand and we’ll see what happens.
“It will be a hard fight but it can be done.”
