UNLUCKY: Yoker players came so close to a win against unbeaten Lanark

Lanark 2 Yoker 2

YOKER threw away a two goal lead to come away with just a point in a second half of Moor Park madness.

A Burns own goal and a clever finish had put the visitors in prime position to leave Lanark with an impressive three points.

But after McLafferty saw red the home side took advantage, bulging the net twice — including a last minute strike — to share the points.

The home side would be the first to admit they got out of jail against their bogey team, producing a disappointing display not reflecting their superior status five positions ahead of Yoker who currently lie eighth.

Their new boss Tony McInally, without several key players, watched as his side failed to carve out any clear cut chances in the first half save for a Stark header easily stopped by Meechan. Instead it was Yoker doing the running, and their efforts were rewarded on 32 minutes when a sweet cross from the left struck the unlucky Burns at the back post and ended up in the back of the net.

They remained in the lead at half-time and doubled their advantage on the 65 minute mark, when, as Lanark cried for offside, the Yoker striker burst forward, steadied himself and stroked the ball cooly past the outstretched McGuigan.

Tom Hanlon cracked a shot narrowly wide for the home side, sparking keeper Meechan and McClafferty to engage in a heated debate over who was to blame for the poor marking, and McClafferty was soon in bother again, but this time with the referee.

With 70 minutes on the clock, the normally reliable McClafferty was sent off following a tackle from behind on Stark and this gave the home side the impetus they desperately craved. Just five minutes later, Osborne reduced the defecit, sidestepping a defender to fire home and it was to go from bad to worse as Hanlon fed Franch who shot across Meechan for an ill deserved equaliser to maintain his sides unbeaten record.

Yoker: Meechan, Mc Kay, Murray, Clarke, Sharkey, Frew, Smith, Marshall, Watt, Mc Clafferty, Bissland. Subs: Readie, Boal, Keaveney, Peacock, Cairns.
