Mum’s steering locks on A82 carriageway

WORRY: Christine feared for her life
A TERRIFIED mum feared for her life when her car steering locked as she drove along a busy dual carriageway.
Christine Wynne, 31 — who had her two children in the car — was luckily able to bring her Vauxhall Vectra to a stop safely at the side of the A82.
While she escaped unhurt, the experience shook her badly.
Christine told the Post: “I came on to the Boulevard by the Old Kilpatrick road and was doing about 30mph as I moved lane.
“Going towards the Bowling roundabout it just locked up — as soon as it happened I put the hazards on and moved over to slow down steadily.”
Christine’s quick thinking kept her and daughters Chloe, nine, and five-year-old Rebecca safe on the busy road, but she recalls she was far from calm at the time.
She said: “I was just thinking ‘here we go, that’s me’.
“I thought how my kids were in the back and if the other drivers didn’t see me, they were going to smack into the back of me and that would be that.
“It was very scary and has had a big impact.
“I was shaken up and so were the kids.”
Christine bought the car from Arnold Clark in Dumbarton in February last year and had it towed off for inspection after the incident.
But mechanics could find nothing wrong with the five-year-old car.
However, a spokesman for Arnold Clark told the Post that they are going to get it checked out again.
He said: “Our expertly trained and experienced mechanics using a computerised fault finding system, could find no fault with the steering mechanisms of the vehicle and advised Miss Wynne of this.
“Customer safety and service is the number one priority at Arnold Clark and we would therefore like to put Miss Wynne’s mind at ease by paying for an independent mechanical review of the car’s steering.
“If a fault is found then we will be more than happy to investigate this situation and assist where possible.”
