PAINT: Alex with his vandalised car

CALLOUS youths have painted offensive messages on a disabled man’s car.

The vandals attacked Alex Knox’s motor with paint in the early hours of Friday morning.

They daubed slogans such as ‘drunk driver’ on the side of the car when they struck at his home.

And across the bonnet of the Renault Megane they spelled out “Ho Ho, DLA”, the acronym for Disability Living Allowance.

Alex, who lives in Peel Glen Road, Drumchapel, is on long term illness with mobility problems and needs his car to get about.

He told the Post: “I woke up to see this paint all over my car — they must have done it earlier in the morning.

“It has ruined it. There has been quite a few places vandalised around here now — house breakings, smashed windows, tyres slashed and all sorts.

“I’d like them to put more police on the beat and on public transport because we don’t get anything just now.

“I saw a police car yesterday going down the road but they are few and far between.

“When I reported the paint attack I asked them why have we not got any more police on the streets — they told me it’s because there’s hardly any police up there at the Drumchapel police office.”

Alex is angry his calls to the police about the anti-social behaviour of the youths seem to go unanswered.

He added: “In the park they have parties all the time — it is the same people — but no police go near them. I phoned around a fortnight ago when they were all down and making noise about 10pm.

“At 12.30am I get a phone call from them asking if they were still there — that’s not dealing with the problem.”

The 48-year-old is also hoping his housing association will help him out with the installation of CCTV and gates on his drive to keep out would-be vandals.

Police have told Alex they will check CCTV in the area and contact him with any development.

Drumchapel police were unavailable for comment.
