GAG MAN: Brian Mooney

A HOME-grown comedy talent may be on the verge of following in the steps of the likes of Peter Kay.

After reaching the final of a comedy competition, Brian Mooney is now hoping to win a spot at a showcase for new talent at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival — So You Think You’re Funny.

So You Think You’re Funny is touted as “the most influential competition of its kind in the UK”.

The 49-year-old accountant from Duntocher is through to the final of Comedy Champ at this year’s Fringe and the winner of this will land the coveted spot.

So You Think You’re Funny, hosted each year at the Gilded Balloon theatre, has launched the careers of such talents as Peter Kay, Phil Kay, Rhona Cameron, and Lee Mack.

Brian, who is relatively new to the stand-up scene, is delighted to have come this far.

He said: “I was quite surprised to reach the final, you’re never sure how things are going to go.

“I got really good feedback from the audience and was hopeful I would make the next stage.”

His brand of humour is Glaswegian based, and his act involves singing comedy songs.

Brian hopes to do well at the Edinburgh Fringe so he can take up comedy full-time.

He said: “I would love to do it full-time although I’m realistic about the fact the opportunities aren’t that great.

“I would love to think I’ve got a chance but some of those guys are really good.

“All I can do is my best.”
