SCENE: Corner of Montrose Street and Warilda Avenue

A TEENAGER was rushed to hospital after a 'wild' pack of youths allegedly attempted to kill him.

The 18-year-old is thought to have suffered serious head injuries — leaving him with a compressed skull — in a vicious attack during which his assailants used poles and garden furniture to beat him.

Witnesses described how the man had been chased down Montrose Street before being cornered in a back garden.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning in the back garden of a property on the corner of Montrose Street and Warilda Avenue, Drumry, at around 4am.

The victim was left with blood pouring down his face before a good samaritan helped get him inside to safety and called an ambulance.

The attack is being treated by police as attempted murder.

The exact number of attackers is not clear.

One shocked resident told the Post: “We got woken up at about four in the morning with so much noise coming from outside and when we looked out saw a group of youngsters jumping through all the gardens.

“Then we saw one of the guys getting hit around the body. They were grabbing anything they could and left the guy with blood pouring out of his head and really badly hurt.

“It’s totally unbelievable — they were acting like animals.”

Another resident said: “They were hitting him with a chair leg and a pole as well.

“One of them was kicking him on the face while another battered him.

“It’s shocking for it to happen so close to home.”

The victim was rushed to the Southern General to be treated is still in hospital.

It is believed that the incident could be connected to ongoing gang fighting between Clydebank and Drumchapel youngsters, which has blighted the town for years.

Robert McKelvie, 18, of Robert Burns Avenue, Drumry, and Nicholas Brannagan, 16, of Brown Avenue, Whitecrook, were arrested in connection with incident and appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Both made no plea or declaration

Mr Brannagan was remanded in custody.
