Does ex Chocolate girl have X-Factor?
By Colin Hutton
MODEL: Gillian
A STUNNING Bankie model and singer is having another stab at becoming a pop princess.
Some readers may remember Gillian Allan from her time with girl group Chocolate Monday which had some chart success a couple of years ago.
But Gillian, who has not been singing since the Choc trio melted away, decided to give it one more shot and has managed to get through to the second stage of ITV’s X Factor competition.
The Dalmuir girl went along to the two day auditions at Hampden in May and after impressing the production team with renditions of Autumn Leaves by Eva Cassidy and Teardrop by Massive Attack she was invited back to face the dreaded panel.
She told the Post: “Since the band finished I’ve been modelling full time.
“I’ve not really been singing at all and have really missed it in the last few years.
“I always watch the X Factor and every year I think I should enter but I never do.
“So I thought ‘why not?’ — and just auditioned.”
The 24-year-old will now be one of the select few chosen from more than 100,000 hopefuls, to go before the judges and she cannot wait to shine in front of Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue, Sharon Osbourne and especially acid-tongued Simon Cowell.
Gillian, who admits having a “wee fancy” for Cowell, hopes that he likes what he sees — and hears — when she performs for him later this year.
She told the Post: “I would love to get to the live shows but to actually win I just can’t imagine.
“I’m actually quite looking forward to meeting Simon Cowell because I’ve got a wee fancy for him.
“As long as I feel that I do my best at the auditions then that’s all I can do and we’ll see what happens.
“I think when I see Simon I’ll try to speak and nothing will come out and if he says something nasty — which I hope he won’t — I would like to think I would just bow out gracefully.
“But no matter what he says to me I still love him.”
Gillian, who has already enjoyed some of the ups and downs of the music business after her stint in the girl group, says she is not getting carried away.
She said: “I’m just taking it as it comes just now because I know what the music industry is like from my experiences with the band, so I’m just trying to avoid disappointment.
“Whatever happens though I will always come back to singing and if I can make a career out of it then that would be a dream come true.”
