Dance squad turned Mr Nasty into Mr Nice
By Colin Hutton
MR Nasty, Simon Cowell, was tamed by a group of Bankie dancers when they appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.
Cheer and dance squad CDC Allstars wowed a packed audience at the auditions with an energetic routine and the acid-tongued judge could not hide his admiration for the girls.
But despite heaping praise on the Clydebank outfit, the 20-strong squad was dumped at the London stage of the auditions.
Lisa Tausney, the group’s head coach, told the Post that the girls were confident they would make it to the latter stages of the competition after getting three ‘yes’ votes.
And they were delighted to escape the wrath of judges Simon, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan.
The girls’ routine featured on Saturday night’s show on ITV1, and the semi-finals are being broadcast live on TV every day this week.
Lisa, 26, said: “When we entered the competition it was at the last minute and we were not sure how we would get on. So when we put our routine together it was probably not our best, but unfortunately after we got through the first round we were told that we had to stick with the same dance.
“We got three ‘yes’ votes from the judges and Piers even said that without doubt ‘Scotland’s got talent’.
“Simon told us that of all the cheerleading groups he had seen, we were one of the best, so everyone was really pleased.
“There were over 100 acts at the Scottish auditions and they had to cut it down to 40 initially before deciding who got to go to London.
“When we found out we had made it to London everyone was so excited, but unfortunately we didn’t make it any further.
“But we were not expecting to get past the first stage and after getting nothing but praise from the judges we were over the moon.
“What I was worried about when we entered was that Simon Cowell might embarrass us or that the audience would boo and humiliate us.” Despite crashing out of the competition the girls — who train at Clydebank Rugby Club and Drumchapel Sports Centre — have still got priceless memories to look back on.
As well as brushing shoulders with celebrities such as Ant and Dec, the group has grown in confidence since its television experience.
Lisa said: “For us it was great to be a part of the show because it was fun and different compared to our usual competitions which we have to take really seriously.
“It was a good experience for all the girls though and will be something they will always remember.”
