THREE ‘dealers’ have been arrested following the seizure of cocaine with an alleged street value of more than £80,000.

Police stopped the car the men were travelling in on the Boulevard in Clydebank, and allegedly discovered the class A drugs haul.

It is not clear if the bust was part of an on going surveillance operation or whether the car had been stopped for other reasons.

The occupants of the vehicle, Alexander Glassford, 27, Derek Sinclair, 27, and Peter Stevenson, 24, appeared in private at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Thursday.

The Drumchapel men were charged with being concerned in the supply of illegal drugs but made no plea or declaration.

Glassford, of 48B Summerhill Road, was released on bail while Sinclair, of flat 0/1 10 Halgreen Avenue, and Stevenson, of 5 Halgreen Avenue, were remanded in custody.

It is not known whether the men were arriving back in the area or had been driving away with the alleged stash.

The incident happened at around 8pm on Tuesday, May 13 on Great Western Road.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a man, aged 22, was allegedly caught in possession of cocaine on Dumbarton Road, Whitecrook, at 4.15pm on Sunday May 18.

Cocaine use has soared in Scotland by 25 per cent in just three years and demand is spiralling.

Experts say it is the most addictive drug.

Its popularity is being partly blamed on images of celebrities who seem to flout the law and get away with using it.

The vast majority of cocaine in Scotland comes from Columbia.

Traditionally, the drug arrived via the Caribbean, but now west Africa has become the most popular trafficking route.

Once in Europe, the drug enters Scotland through Holland and Spain.
