A GROUP of budding Hollywood directors have made a film to celebrate the Titan Crane’s 101st birthday.

Primary seven pupils from St Stephen’s created a two-minute animated DVD showing the history of the magnificent A-listed giant cantilever as part of a school project.

The children from the Dalmuir school took eight weeks to complete their masterpiece, with the help of professional animator Ińigo Garrido, and were astounded to see the finished product.

Maureen Sullivan, primary seven class teacher, told the Post: “The children could not believe it when they saw the finished piece.

“When we finally saw the DVD the children were all just so excited.

“The children got an immense amount from this project, especially working with such a talented animator as Ińigo.

“We are now going to show the DVD as part of the school assembly so that the whole school can be proud of the work that the class did.”

The talented pupils were on hand to celebrate the re-opening of Clydebank’s newest visitor attraction for its second season when they were able to show off their clever film to the Clydebank Re-built board — the company behind the restoration of the 150ft crane.

Eleanor McAllister, managing director of Clydebank Re-built, said: “The Titan Crane is now all that remains of John Brown’s shipyards and is very much part of Clydebank’s proud shipbuilding past.

“We were delighted to work with the pupils at St Stephen’s Primary as part of a wider schools programme about the crane.

“Their DVD is really fun and imaginative and it tells the story of the crane’s 101 years in just two minutes.

“The pupils take a real part in the animation and in the commentary and soundtrack.

“We have plans to include more schools in our education programme this year.”

John McFall, Clydebank MP and chair of the Clydebank Re-built board, added: “The two-minute cartoon DVD, which looks really professional, is being used to promote the Titan locally and on the worldwide web — and it is absolutely stunning and exceptionally informative.

“It’s a terrific piece of work by this talented group of primary school pupils.”

The crane is open to the public for the summer season from Friday to Monday until Monday October 20 from 10am to 5pm (last tour of the day goes up at 4pm).
