THIS is the lucky couple which beat off stiff competition to claim first place in the Clydebank Post’s £3,000 wedding reception giveaway.

Gerard Donachie and fiancée Audrey Dahl were stunned to hear the news that they had won the amazing prize of a champagne reception in the Radnor Park Hotel for them and 100 guests.

Their family and friends filled out thousands of nomination coupons to ensure the pair could celebrate their wedding in style.

Gerard, 33, told the Post: “It was my mum who told me about the competition.

“I was working when she called to tell me she was nominating us.

“She got all my family involved, and she and my sister especially have been great.

“I thought it was all a bit pie in the sky but I have been proved wrong.”

Gerard and Audrey, from Knightswood, met through a mutual friend and hit it off immediately.

The loving couple have been together for three years and hope to tie the knot at St Margaret’s Church in Knightswood on April 11, next year.

Audrey, 39, said: “I couldn’t believe my future mother-in-law has done this, she has been so thoughtful — everyone has been great.

“I feel part of the family, they have really welcomed me.”

Audrey swapped tradition by taking full of advantage of the leap year this year and proposed to Gerard.

She said: “My daughter noticed that when the Post started running this competition it was just after I had proposed to Gerard — it’s as if it was meant to be.

“He is an absolute gentleman and I know this is going to be something really special.

“I have never looked back — he has been a total knight in shining armour.”

Audrey has two children, Victoria, 13, and Christopher, 14, who will be in the bridal party along with Gerard’s step-dad as his best man and Audrey’s sister, Jacqueline, as her maid of honour.

Audrey has already picked out her dress, after only trying on five, and the happy couple are looking forward to their luxurious reception.

Audrey added: “Money was always at the back of my mind.

“I was worried we couldn’t afford it as we had built our futures in our mind almost.

“I just can’t believe it.”

The Post and the Radnor Park Hotel would like to thank everyone who entered the competition.

The results were — Gerard and Audrey, 1,279 votes; Thomas Trainer and Carrie Fergusson, 513 votes and Shaun Lee and Caroline Goldie, 326 votes. For further information about wedding packages available at the Radnor Park Hotel, call 0141 952 3427.
