FINED: Taylor

A BOY racer who took cops on a high speed chase — was caught after parking his car outside his own house.

Michael Taylor, 22, panicked when he spotted the patrol car following him on Kilbowie Road, because he was disqualified and had been drinking.

Taylor raced recklessly through residential streets in a bid to get away.

During the pursuit, Taylor clocked speeds of up to 60mph and even tackled a small roundabout on Second Avenue at 50mph.

Rhona Baird, fiscal depute, told Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week that Taylor was finally caught when he pulled into a space outside his home in Barrie Quadrant.

She said officers could smell alcohol on his breath and a test at Clydebank Police station revealed him to be over the limit.

He had 46mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath — the legal limit is 35mg.

Taylor’s lawyer Kenny Clark said his client had “a limited amount of drink” and admitted knocking back two pints on the night of the incident February 9, 2007.

He said the accused had been previously disqualified and had not replaced his licence.

Mr Clark said the car belonged to his client’s girlfriend at the time and he “panicked” when he saw the cops attempting to pull him over.

He added: “[He] can’t offer any other reason”.

Mr Clark said his client admitted careless driving, driving whilst disqualified, and not having a valid licence or insurance.

Taylor also pled guilty to failing to appear at the court on April 19, 2007.

Sheriff Valerie Johnson warned Taylor that she could have jailed him for driving under the influence.

She fined Taylor of 28 Barrie Quadrant, Parkhall, a total of £1,000 and disqualified him for three years.

He was admonished for driving without a valid licence.
