Fed up cops say they were forced to call time
A STRING of brawls resulted in a boozer being closed early by cops.
John Brown’s pub was cleared by police — 10 minutes before closing — after what they have described as a number of violent drink-fuelled clashes involving customers.
The alleged troubles happened just days before Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill announced a £1m cash injection for the area to combat alcohol-fuelled violence. He said: “Sadly there’s barely a weekend that goes by without one incident or another to remind us of the importance of tackling violence, and in particular, alcohol fuelled violence.
“I hope the projects funded through this additional money can make the streets of our towns and cities safer.”
Clydebank police say that the first incident kicked-off outside the pub and was seen by CCTV operators at 11.20pm on Friday, September 21.
They allegedly witnessed two men fighting in the street, punching and kicking each other.
Two men, aged 29 and 26, have since been reported for the alleged breach of the peace.
Just over an hour later, at 12.55am, police were called to another disturbance outside the pub and spotted a large group spilling out.
Police claim a fight then broke out which resulted in three women, aged 18, 20 and 22, being arrested.
The 22-year-old was charged with breach of the peace and two police assaults while the other two were charged with breaches.
The final straw came on Sunday night when police were again alerted to a disturbance at 11.50pm.
On investigation concerned officers claim they had to close the premises.
When punters were asked to leave, one 43-year-old man allegedly became abusive towards officers and was arrested.
As the incident was on-going, two other men, aged 33 and 24, were allegedly involved in a stand-up fight outside of the pub.
More cops were called to the scene to help break-up the incident, which was recorded on CCTV.
Both men have been reported for the alleged offence.
The 33-year-old man was also reported for allegedly having a controlled drug in his possession.
But this week the manager of John Brown’s played down the pub’s role in the incidents.
He told the Post: “There might have been incidents outside the pub but there was definitely not any problems inside.
“There was a Christening on and there was a bit of a domestic outside.
“There was definitely no incidents inside the pub and it was not closed down, definitely not.” In another incident on the other side of the town, a police officer was allegedly headbutted after a disturbance within a pub turned nasty.
Cops received reports that there was an alleged disturbance at MackIntosh’s Bar in Swindon Street, Dalmuir, around 7.25pm on Monday September 24.
Subsequently, a 24-year-old man was arrested and has been reported for allegedly causing a disturbance within licensed premises.
A 52-year-old man, who was also reported for the alleged disturbance, is believed to have become aggressive to officers.
Upon arresting the man, it is alleged he became violent and then headbutted an officer. He has also been reported for allegedly resisting arrest and police assault.
The funding, announced by Kenny MacAskill, will be awarded to the Community Safety Partnership.
